Rett Syndrome is a relatively newly discovered syndrome and thus has not received the Provincial or Federal funding to date, that many other organisations have. Therefore assistance is needed by the community even more.
Rett Syndrome is the most disabling of Autism diseases. It affects roughly 1 in 15,000 girls worldwide. Boys stricken with this disorder almost always die in infancy. Girls are born healthy and appear normal until 6-18 months of age when a mutated gene destroys speech and mobility causing all kinds of neurological and other health problems.
These Silent Angels are charcterised by repetitive hand movements like ringing or mouthing. They are engaging girls whose beautiful eyes speak more than words.
